Top 5 most useful travel accessories

Something to be aware of whilst packing for travelling:

Many retailers try their upmost hardest to sell you a large variety of techy travelling ‘essentials’ which they will claim you cannot live without.
However, the truth of the matter is that you only really need the bare basics whilst travelling:

World Wide Travel Adapter

Imagine yourself sunbathing on Bondi Beach in Australia, about to take a breathtaking photograph of the scenery and then, your camera battery dies. There is nothing more frustrating!

Whether you’re thinking of going travelling for 2 weeks, 2 months or 2 years you are guaranteed to need a worldwide adapter. With this handy gadget you’ll be able to charger your iPod, Mobile Phone and Camera from all over the world; so this means NEVER running out of battery again!

Mosquito Relief

This very much depends on where you’re heading on your travels but I’d recommend taking some with you just incase.

A good repellent applied to your exposed areas every 6 hours should deter any mosquitoes and if your wearing sun cream, apply you repellent on top of this.
Not only are mosquito bites irritating but also remember that mosquitoes transmit Malaria.  If you are planning on visiting a malaria zone you should see your GP at least a month prior to travelling so that suitable medication can be arranged.

Sun Cream

Don’t leave buying sun cream until your away; it is quite likely that you won’t be able to purchase sun cream in the most basic of places around the world.
Sun can be a major attraction whilst travelling; let’s be honest we all love a good suntan! However, direct exposure to sunlight is dangerous and too much can cause skin cancer.
Wearing a good waterproof sun cream (Factor 15 or above) will provide effective protection against the sun and will still allow you to tan gradually.

Extra Memory Card & SD/SDHC Card Reader

Whilst your busy making memories during your adventure travelling remember to make a hard copy of your photographs so you don’t run the risk of loosing them.  It’s all very well taking hundreds of images and video recordings but what happens if, heaven forbid, your camera gets stolen or lost along the way?
If we were in the comfort of our own homes, I would recommend taking a hard drive to simply back up your memories however, whilst travelling it is weighty, bulky and a tasty temptation to potential thieves.
This SDHC card reader has a memory card slot within it; which means you can simply slot your memory card in the card reader and plug it into the computer. Once you’ve copied your holiday photos to the computer simply insert your back up memory card into the card reader and copy your photos on to it.
Remember to store your card reader and spare memory card somewhere safe; where a potential thief wouldn’t think of looking!

Swiss Army Knife

My initial thought when having been told to take a swiss army knife when travelling was that I wouldn’t use it; I have one at home which, although incredibly cool, remains unused in the kitchen draw.

This can’t be said for whilst travelling! When you’re away fighting the wilderness a swiss army knife is an essential item.  It’s nifty small blade, scissors, nail file with screwdriver tip, toothpick, tweezers and key ring are fantastic when tackling the challenges of nature.
For safety’s sack we would recommend packing your swiss army knife within your checked luggage whilst travelling; you won’t get past airport security and may well end up being frisked by a mighty angry customs officer!
Although, all of these gadgets and essentials are incredibly useful; it is important to remember that travelling is about the memories that we make along the way, not what we take with us. It is better to spend your time enjoying travelling than to experience it from behind a camera lens.
Here’s one last handy tip

Have an iPhone? Then download the TripIt App; it’s FREE and superb for organizing your itineraries ready for your travels! Have your flight details, hotel accommodations, train times, travel accounts and so much more at the touch of a button – and you have full access whether you’re connected to the internet or offline. We couldn’t recommend it more!
